Downs Farm
A Little About Us
A small family run farm looked after by Tom, Sophie, Jobie and Jacob. In 2019 we became the fourth generation of the Smith family to run this farm.
Our Produce
We produce a range of delicious, healthy homegrown food at Downs Farm.
Find fresh vegetables and beef products, from our small herd of traditional native breed cows, including charcuterie, all available to buy from our small farm shop.
Our cows are raised traditionally on grass, hay, and crops grown sustainably on the farm, and our vegetables are grown without using nasty chemicals.
A little about our curing process
In 2018 Tom turned part of our old glasshouse into a processing room, converted a glass-fronted fridge into a curing chamber, which is where our meat hangs for 4-6 weeks. It is then sliced, packaged and distributed to our outlets in Scilly.
We send only two animals a year, one of which goes through the curing business. The other we sell as meat boxes and in our little farm shop.
We only feed our cows food that we have grown on the farm. We don’t feed them grain or cows nuts, instead they get goodies like grass, hay, fodder beet, stubble turnips, pittosporum, potatoes and they love the autumn because they get to eat apples, every day.
To keep up to date on our little herd and progress made with our new shepherd’s hut ‘like’ our Social Media Pages.
Historically a flower farm, we still have narcissus, Belladonna (Pink Ladies) and Nerines come up on the farm every year which are available to purchase from our farm shop.
